I did a 69 Corolla once that way. A local K-Mart was selling a Rustoleum brand spray paint for 50 cents a can. It was either overstocked, or discontinued, or old stock, not sure which but I bought 2 cases. I wet sanded the Toyota, then painted one panel at a time, while masking the adjacent panels. Not really a full mask, just enough to isolate the panels. I used a trigger spray attachment for the cans, and had at it. Took about a week to do it all, and it looked okay. I also painted outside, under a tree!

After I got out of college, I sold my old 64 Beetle to my dad for my brother to drive. Dad painted that panel by panel with automotive paint bought at the local parts house, using an airless (Wagner) paint sprayer. That job looked nice. You can get those type sprayers cheap on craigslist, or a pawn shop. You can also buy automotive paints online, just do a search.

I've built several VW dune buggies, and BAJA bugs and have painted them with tractor paint bought from Tractor Supply company. Those look great, and I usually do those outside of the paint booth.

The VW my dad painted I owned for about a year. It had been painted by the previous owners dad. He had some leftover exterior house paint and while the roller was wet...... And believe it or not, it didn't look too bad!

I remember when shag carpet became popular, there was a carpet dealer in the city I was living in who glued carpet to his car. I've seen indoor outdoor (astro turf stuff) covered vehicles. I've seen vehicles covered with thousands of bottle caps (from beer of course). I've also seen cars painted with chalkboard paint, and you can draw anything you want on them.

Anyway, sure you can do it yourself. It will look as good as the effort you put in it. I would really suggest the tractor paint It's cheap and you can mix colors together to get what you want. Just do some practice spraying on a big piece of cardboard first.

Cylinders 3 & 4 not contributing -- performed compression test; #1 112 psi, #2 142 psi, #3 80 psi, #4 40 psi -- removed #4 plug and covered in oil -- Cylinder washed out -- Recommend motor -- Ring job is too labor intensive and no guarantee." They said a new motor job would run about $3K. I guess the lack of compression is the biggest factor in the emissions failure. Does anyone know of a way to get the emissions healthy again? This van is way too good to scrap because of this engine issue. The garage guys know their stuff, but maybe someone out there has a unique perspective or has a creative idea. I'm even willing to try something crazy. All suggestions will be appreciated.

I take super good care of the car and always take it in for maintenance every 5,000 miles with its recommended oil and I am very easy on it in terms of how I drive it overall. Also, I am in college so it is not driven much while I am at schoo for the most part. Just out of curiosity, if I were to keep this car for many years, how long could I expect it to last?

  • What is causing my front driver side wheel to be extremely hot after driving long distance?

Best answer: Replace that rotor and put new pads on it.. A warped rotor will cause you to wobble when you hit the brakes and on most cars you might even feel a pulsating in the pedal.. Yes a warped rotor will cause an extreme amount of extra heat, basically the caliper will extend to the lowest point when you hit your brake, when you let off it just backs the pads off a little bit so when the warped part of the rotor gets to the pads it pushes against the pads and acts like the caliper is sticking half the time.

If replacing the rotor and pads do not fix your problem, then you will probably have to replace that caliper also... Keep in mind sometimes the bushings on the caliper where it mounts to the spindle will get a bunch of crud on them and cause them to stick so while you have the caliper off you might want to take a wire wheel or something to the metal bushings.

Best answer: There are different rules depending on the state that you reside in...So i am guessing that you are in one of the 5 states where 25 years of vehicle age exempts you from an emissions test... In a lot of states even if the car doesn't require you to take a emissions test you are still required to have a catalytic converter.

That being said i have to ask the question, why do you want to remove it? Being as there are only 2 reasons i can think of that you would want to remove it would be that either it has a hole in it and it's getting loud, or that it is plugged up and causing the car to not run properly.

If it has a hole in it and I'm assuming that you have found out catalytic converters cost a lot of money then I am assuming you want to replace it with a straight pie, which is fine as i doubt that any cop is going to look under your car to see if you have a catalytic converter. However depending on the size of the hole, i have welded the holes closed using a coat hanger before.

Now if it's just plugged up, well just pull it off take a pipe that is smaller then the exhaust pipe that is attached to it and beat on it till it goes through to the exhaust pipe on the other side and then pull it out and let the loose debris fall to the ground and put it back on the car... Essentially you've just knocked all the baffles out and turned your catalytic converter into a straight pipe... Keep in mind the debris that comes out you might want to save, it usually gets a pretty good price at the scrap yard.

  • Is my car safe to drive?

Recently, I was in an accident (won t go into details), but my engine doesn t appear to be damage, however i just noticed when I turn off my car there is a bit of smoke. I was wondering if it s damage to the engine or if its just due to the cold.

  • How long can a vehicle sit in ideal conditions with the highest grade synthetic engine oil?

Assume that fuel degradation is not a factor - it's a vehicle modified for LPG. The battery is also taken care of. It's sitting inside at a constant 68 F ambient temperature. Will the oil ever "go bad" on its own?
