• Is this true or are they lying?

I have friends who claim that they change their oil every 20,000 miles and have never had any problems with cars getting over 300,000 miles. They do say they only use full synthetic oil. True or lying?

  • Why did my car hydroplane?

Best answer: Sometimes oil gets on the road and water on top of it will cause you to lose traction. You have no way of knowing if such a condition exists when approaching it.

She bumped the gear shifter into drive 1 or drive 2 and I didn t realize it till I hopped on the freeway. I pressed the gas pretty hard and realized the problem when the RPMs went to 6 / 7 (the red) and the car wouldn t pick up speed. I instantly pulled off the gas and then put the car in drive 4. I have experienced no issues with my car thus far. Will everything be okay? It s an 02 Honda Accord

  • Why has no car manufacturer built a modern car with a carburetor engine? (Question continues below)?

Best answer: Emmissions regulations forced the developement of everything under the hood. Car makers would just build carburetors and simple cars if they could. The Lada in Russia was carb until 1996, cheap car trying to stay cheap. The VW bug was built from 1938 to 2003 but outlawed by emmission laws in many countries in the 1970's. I think it used the carb the whole time.

I see many people calling the carb ineffecient here. A good carb design with a good mechanic on a well designed car will not get better mileage if converted to fuel injection. There is much more going on. The computer and all it's gear got added to the carb to make the catalyst converter work. The mechanical carb parts were not fast enough or durable enough, so evolution replaced them with injection. Many advancements have been made for improved combustion and emmissions on the modern car. Only in the later half of compuer's life has performance come from it.

For the past few days my car has not been starting immediately like it usually does. I turn the key and it groans for a good five seconds before starting. It’s been cold so I didn’t think anything of it at first. It warmed up today and it is still struggling to start. It started easier when it was in the single digits last week than it did today in the 25 degree weather. I’ve had trouble with the battery in the past but this doesn’t seem to be the same issue. Sometimes when it sits out in the extreme cold too long the battery has to be boosted to get started but that’s normalish for this car (2010 Mazda6 btw). If I turn it off and then go do something for a little while it doesn’t do the whole groaning thing. Yesterday I drove it across the street from where I work to get groceries and spent about 40 minutes inside. When I tried to start it again it was fine. It had struggled to start when I got off work but it didn’t protest at all when I was done getting my groceries. Does this sound like a battery problem or starter problem? The battery is under three years old. I’m reluctant to bring it to a shop because I know it won’t groan at them because it will have been running right before they get it.

  • Speedometer needle shaking?

My speedometer needle has been wobbling around a lot. Any time I accelerate over about 60 mph it starts shaking. It’s an older car, a 94 Ford Taurus. It has a new alternator, starter, battery, and battery cables. Thanks!
