So I have a 9 month old Rottweiler Pitbull mix, since I had him he has always ate his food really fast, I rescued him and I believe the reason he eats so fast is because he has fear of his food being taken away and not knowing when he's going to eat next. I have had a hard time getting him to eat slow and actually chew his food and sometimes if he eats to fast he throws it up. 5 days ago we moved from cail to Florida. He was doing pretty good but the place we moved into have a little lab puppy, 6 months, they love each other but with the hole food thing he eats even faster, I have tured putting the little lab in a different room when I feed him but he will eat really fast so I tried putting water in his food to see if that will slow him down and get more water in him because hes to busy playing with his new friend and doesn't drink as much water as he should be but the water just made him throw up more, so any tips on how to get him to slow down at eating and even chew his food would be great and how to get him to drink more water would be very helpful, thank you for your time

That being said, we our current dog is a very large lab that is a "seizure alert" dog for my oldest daughter who has had to move back in with us because of health issues (multiple seizures most days - can not be on her own.) But her oldest son (who is 17) does all the caring for it.

In the meantime, you need to express the milk, and apply hot compresses on those teats to increase the circulation and get out any extra fluid- gently. Keep in ind, puppies knead the mammary glands when they nurse, so massage them as you are milking her into a damp wash cloth. Then she should be gently washed with a mild solution of chlorhexiderm or betadine, and rinsed well with warm water so she doesn't lick it and kill of her gut flora.

Call your vet immediately, and ask them too. They may put her on antibiotics for a few days. You don't want her to get mastitis, so don't waste any time getting on the phone. It's going to be some work for the next day or so, but the extra attention will also do her good as well- the faster you can get her into a routine and doing things with you, the better. She needs activity, but she also needs to be protected against mastitis. Get rid of anything that smells of the puppies, and shovel up any soil where they have been, and wash any blankets or crate pads that may be left around with their scent. She should be kept away from those pheromones, or she'll be frantic looking for them.

Any thoughts? Is this a red flag?

Best answer: I have a dog that I was told would never be potty trained (he has diabetes insipidus which is like water diabetes and makes him go all the time and a lot). I had to be very patient, but what I did was I got him using wee-pads, then reusable wee-pads and called that a success.
4 months agot he started going on the floor in the kitchen rather then the pad in the laundry room behind the kitchen and I decided it was time to move him outside before I lost it at him. After reading litterally 23 books on the subject of potty training I created a method using things from all of them. What I did was I decided on just picking something he does often I didn't much care for and making it the "outside signal". he used to stand over me on the arm of the couch which at his size made me clausterphobic, so when he did that I would snap a leash on and out he went. If he went potty outside he got treats and good dog praises. If not we simply walked and went inside. If he went in the house I would simply clean it up (no punishment since he has a condition and a lot of the books stated that he would not understand punishment after the fact) and wait for the next signal. It took about a month of careful work, but he only goes outside now, and uses the signal I picked.

In the beginning he was very confused about why I took him out when he got onto the arm of the couch, but he figured out that action now means "go out", and he figured out if he went potty while we were out he got treats and praise and lovings so it became a good way to get a treat. He now uses it just to go play in the snow at times, but I don't mind as long as he goes potty outside as well.

    Good luck!

A dog has a lot less risks if they're spayed, so there really doesn't seem to be a good reason not to. So the people that don't spay their dogs are generally, but not always, people that are being ignorant and/or negligent and let their dog get pregnant. That's a big reason people feel so strongly.

You really do sound intelligent and considerate, and I do believe you would likely keep your dog from getting pregnant. But the 1 in 4 risk of cancer is significant, and there is an much increased chance of reproductive infection including life threatening pyometra, and emotional issues like false pregnancy. I certainly understand worrying about an unnecessary surgery, but statistically, it is much safer to spay than to not, if your dog is young and healthy, but it's your decision what you feel is right for your dog.

Morning, I was walking to school today and saw my dog standing near a road. My instincts kicked in and I tried to grab her and she ran into the road. I saw a car hit her and screamed (the lady who hit her got out of the car and came running to our house and was clearly very apologetic so we told her she could leave since it was clearly an accident.) Parents took Leelu to a vet, turned out she just broke her back leg and got a little bruised with a small open wound on her head, her heart rate is fine and she didn't break any teeth or bite her tongue (bill is over £1000 and we're tight on money but all that doesn't matter as long as she gets treatment) I'm in such shock, I've been crying for hours, I've just never been so scared- It's crazy, because she's a tiny jack russell and the car was huge, and she came out of it with a broken leg and a few scratches. So, I'm mainly writing this since someone must have opened our garden gate sometime at night or later this morning. I let Leelu out at around 7 am as I always do and she came back fine (if the gate was open then, she would have run earlier) then my mum let her out at around 8 am, that's when she ran out through the gate. Our gate had a heavy deadbolt on the inside, so someone must have had to reach through to open it, which would be hard but not impossible. I'm going to talk to my neighbours when they come home but other than that, is there a way to find out who did it? (I included a photo of Leelu)

  • Why does my labrador have to eat every damn thing?

All he spends his entire day doing is trying to eat things out of the trash or beg for food. It s all he cares about. It gets redundant.
