Best answer: We have to field science questions here because some Christians who don't seem to comprehend that atheist =/= scientist keep addressing them to us. There's only so many times you can refer someone to the biology section. Since they start the question with "Atheists, do you...." we can't really say it's not meant for us.
Atheists are somewhat guilty of the same since they will ask scientific questions of creationists who are naturally going to reach out to whatever they can cut and paste from Answers in Genesis.

Personally I am definitely no scientist. I did do some soft sciences at university (physical anthropology and archaeology) but as it turned out I had no propensity for it and never did anything with that knowledge afterwards (other than answer some questions here on Human evolution). My career background has nearly all been spent on industrial archaeology and the history of the sciences which does give me a shallow overview of many different topics if only via osmosis. The rest I pick up through personal interest. The moment anything gets technical and I'm still stumped! I make no secret of my generalist limitations.

But in most cases that's ok. Questions here aren't normally aimed at a high level. In theory anyone with a highschool understanding of a science subject could spot and demolish an incorrect claim or misconception. Being scientifically literate doesn't mean having letters after your name and nor should it. Besides the more questions us bozos can hoover up, the less it will get in the way of real scientists who have better things to do with their time!

I'm also a denizen of the Astronomy and Space section (space has been a hobby since childhood) and we do end up with a lot of questions transferred from here and yes, sometimes the atheist answers to questions on space or cosmology especially can be ignorant and godawful. I don't understand why anyone chooses to answer a question they clearly know nothing about but I guess the Dunning-Kruger effect can manifest anywhere.

But then if the Christian asker of the question wanted a real answer, and not just high fives from his or her fundamentalist buddies, they would have actually asked it in a science section in the first place. Ask a science question in a religious forum and one should expect answers that are at best, suspect.

  • As a Christian what evidence do you need to stop believing in god?

Best answer: Their minds are closed, and evidence, facts, and reality can't get through the thickness to them. They have all the evidence rational people have, yet they ignore it with intent, and many state, that no matter how wrong they prove to be, nothing can change their irrationality. They have all the evidence rational people have, yet they ignore it with intent, and many state, that no matter how wrong they prove to be, nothing can change their irrationality. They don't care what is right or wrong, they just want to feel superior to you and the others.
They claim to "know" what they simply wish for.

Actually science is now just catching up to the Bible and you will see over the years that a lot of declarations about things in the scientific community will be reported that they were wrong. There are tons of scientific discoveries that have proven Biblical records to be accurate. In the Bible it states that the heart remembers, has feelings, etc. People contradicted this because the heart was declared an organ that just pumps blood, the brain is where all thought and emotions were. Recently there has been a proven scientific report that says the heart DOES remember, we do keep emotions in our hearts, etc. proving the Bible correct again. Research was done with heart transplant recipients - they have dreams of people in the donor's life, remember things that the donor experienced, that the recipients could not have possibly experienced, etc. It is the memories of the donors that they are experiencing. Proving that the Bible saying our hearts remember and have emotion is true.

  • Why do so many Christians, fundamentalists and otherwise, try to use the Bible to try to convince atheists of the truth of God?

Unfortunately, there are some who have no desire to believe, so if you expressed the best logic in the world for the existence of God, and the Spirit of Christ alive in the world, they would brush it off - like the old saying -'You can take a horse to water but you can't make it drink'.

I speak of my personal experience of God and the amazing experiences of my husband and other alive Christian friends, but most atheists treat you as a liar or fantasist -perhaps that's their character fault and they are projecting their flawed concept of life on to the Christians. Life on this earth is not logical without a designer and super intelligent power source, how can something come from nothing unless there is another unseen level of life superior to this physical one.

I've asked this before and no one seems to give me a solid answer. Is it a person or what? The whole trinity thing doesn't make any sense.

Best answer: Evolution, the belief that things organized by themselves, is an essential tenet of atheism. The first two tenets of the Humanist Manifesto II, signed by many prominent evolutionists, are
    1. Religious humanists regard the universe as self-existing and not created.

    2. Humanism believes that man is a part of nature and has emerged as a result of a continuous process.

The Natural Laws pertaining to information hold that information is immaterial and that matter cannot bring forth anything immaterial.

Yet the whole of the material universe contains vast amounts of information. To assert a materialistic explanation, it is necessary to demonstrate information arising from material interactions.. When we include DNA into the mix we are talking not just information but language -

including syntax and grammar and complex algorithms. Not only can science not explain this but the Natural Laws pertaining to Information assert this type of information cannot be produced by matter or material interactions.

This is yet another line of evidence that invalidates systematic materialism.. Delusional to believe otherwise. Matter cannot cause itself.
